This historic railroad station in New York City was designed by McKim, Mead, and White. Penn Station was known for its Roman colonnades, lunette windows and simple ornamentation. Inside, the main waiting room was expansive and inspired by the design of ancient Roman baths. The building was completed in 1910 and demolished in 1963. It was replaced by Madison Square Garden above ground... while a new, cramped railroad station was constructed below ground. Old Penn Station is another architectural jewel lost to history.
