Built in 1879, this world class museum is one of my favorites in the country. It is situated in beautiful Forest Park in western St. Louis. The building was designed by Cass Gilbert, who took inspiration from the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, Italy. I particularly love the words engraved above the entrance which read: “Dedicated to art and free to all.” Not surprisingly, admission to the museum is free, a tradition that St. Louis maintains with many of its public venues.
