Situated just south of downtown St. Louis, this 1884 home with its welcoming side porch was once a farmhouse which was built on one of the early farm plots in the city. Less than a decade ago it was lovingly tended with garden shed, workshop, outdoor picnic table, flower beds and a car in the garage. While those elements can still be seen today, the home continues to face the indignation of abandonment, neglect and sorrow.
This is a mixed media piece. I started with a black and white photo that I took, then added four different artistic mediums to create the exact effect I wanted, including ink pen, watercolor, acrylic paint and colored pencil.
The original is mixed media on watercolor paper | 14 x 11"
